LEARNING AND TEACHING
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Religious Education underpins all areas of the curriculum at St. Charles Borromeo and is indeed the reason for our existence.
The staff and students are provided with opportunities to pray each day, this is in the form of Christian Meditation. It is an integral part of building a strong relationship and connection with God, through stillness, silence and simplicity. This involves song or meditation music and may also involve the inclusion of formal or informal prayers by sharing a special intention.
Our Sacramental Journey and Celebrating the Eucharist at Mass: The staff and students are provided with opportunities to live out and express the Catholic tradition in partnership with the St Kevin’s Parish and Father Charles, through: Class Masses (year 3-6), Whole School Masses and para-liturgies and Special events (e.g. Ash Wednesday, The Assumption of Mary, Feast day Masses and St Charles Borromeo Day).
The Sacraments are celebrated in partnership with both the School and St Kevin's Parish. The Sacraments include:
First Reconciliation - Year 3
First Holy Communion - Year 4
Confirmation - Year 6
Learning and teaching Religious Education is to engage students in learning about our Catholic faith through inner and outer dialogue, scripture and the world today. The main focus of learning in the Religious Education curriculum framework is centred around seeking truth and understanding, making meaning and living out God’s work. The framework is organised into five areas:

Social Justice at St Charles Borromeo
We belong to a community that holds a high regard for social justice, seeking avenues to live the Good News. We are committed to being generous in giving to people who are less fortunate within our global community - we seek to live the challenge of the call of Micah the prophet: “Live justly, love tenderly and walk humbly with our God.”
Faith and our social justice is very much connected and lived out. We pride ourselves on living out the messages that have been provided to us through a range of social justice events with the support of our Social Justice Leaders. Raising and donating items to our friendship school, Mantayupan Community School in the Philippines, Caritas Project Compassion and feast days are only some of the work we do. Our FIRE (Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education) carrier leaders use opportunities such as Reconciliation Week, Sorry days and Harmony Days as opportunities to promote respect, fairness and inclusion of Indigenous people.
